Comparison of bioactive compounds of continental and Mediterranean pomegranate fruits and its application in urban gardening

With the significant increase in population cities, necessity of growing safe and functional food is great importance. Pomegranate fruit has many valuable antioxidant properties. The subject study was pomegranate from continental region (Sremski Karlovci, Serbia) Mediterranean (Bar, Montenegro). We compared biochemically active compounds genotypes both locations. analysis performed included total phenolics, tannins, flavonoid contents, proanthocyanidins, pigments chlorophyll a b, as well carotenoids. Analysis vitamin C, titratable acidity, pH value, sugars were also performed. Two tests conducted, including DPPH ABTS tests. Based on results obtained, we concluded that grown nonprimary conditions, such area Serbia, had significantly higher amount than urban region. It found content phenols all genotypes, through three phases, implying adaptation this species to conditions. value these second third phases ripening especially emphasized (ME047-1.18 mg gae/g fw; CO170-8.46 fw). Antioxidant indicate potential examined fruits, first stages ripening, where samples reached 99.36 teac/g fw, while ones 51.84 fw for assay. proanthocyanidins varieties it CO170 (12.13 ce/g fw) stage maximum ME029 genotype (4.36 Such importance are adapted conditions have been proven useful when comes impact human health areas.
